Letterfolk Tile Mat Review and Design Ideas
If you follow me on Instagram, it's no secret at all that I love my Letterfolk Tile Mat. As soon as I saw the Letterfolk Tile Mat video on kickstarter I knew I had to have it. I received the Letter Folk Tile Mat as a gift from my parents for our 10 year wedding anniversary back in 2020. Now, almost a full two years later it remains a staple piece in our home. I love the versatility of the Letterfolk Tile Mat and how I am able to change the design based on the season and the what is going on in our life.

Is the Letterfolk Tile Mat Worth it?
The most common question I get about my Letterfolk Tile Mat is is the Letterfolk Tile Mat worth it? In general, I don't love questions like this because I think "worth it" means something different to everyone. The price point of the Letterfolk Tile Mat does give pause to most. It seems like a lot to spend on a door mat especially when you can usually find cute seasonal ones at Target for under $15.
We have a small home, with limited storage options. So for me, having one door mat that works for all seasons and events is totally worth the price tag. I love having the ability to mix it up and spend time creating a new design. So if that appeals to you, and you have the money to spend, or you are able to save up for it. I would say go for it!
Is the Letterfolk Tile Mat Easy to Clean?
The short answer - no. I would not personally say that the Letterfolk Tile Mat is easy to clean. It's heavy and it's basically an all day project to clean, dry and put a new design on the Letterfolk Tile Mat.
How do I clean my Letterfolk Tile Mat?
After loads of trial and error I finally have a good process for cleaning my Letterfolk Tile Mat. The company at one time suggested putting the tiles in the bag they are packaged in - in the dishwasher. This did not work for me and I ended up with any even bigger mess. Here is a very scientific breakdown of my process:
Step One - Take the tile mat outside to a clean spot (I have seen people also use their bathtub but mine isn't big enough) grab some dish soap and a hose.
Step Two - Add a squiggle of dish soap to the tile mat, and spray it down with the hose. Let it sit for a minute or two and then using a soft brush or micofiber scrub it down a bit.
Step Three- Rinse clean
Step Four - Remove all tiles and lay them out to dry
Step Five - Depending on the traffic/dirt level of where your mat is, you might need to repeat steps two and three again on the blank tile mat.
Step Six - Be patient and let everything dry!
Step Seven - You're ready for a new design
How many Letterfolk Tile Mat Tiles do I need?
The Letterfolk Tile Mat will come with some starter tiles in either black or white depending on which style you pick. I would suggest adding one of their 3 color bundles to your order. That will give you plenty to get started with.
Letterfolk Tile Mat Review:
After owning a Letterfolk Tile Mat for almost two full years I feel like I am finally ready to give my full review.
Pros - I love the vintage style of it. As a huge penny tile fan, this gives you the look without having to commit to a design that's forever on your floor. The ability to change the colors, style, saying and design based on the season or any events you have coming up is super fun. It's very durable, after 2 years of use it's not showing much wear at all.
Cons - It is very heavy which makes it a bit cumbersome to clean and move around. Don't throw the box away like I did because it was super awkward to move. When we had it in the kitchen, crumbs went in the crevices quite a bit which made it difficult to vacuum.
We only used our Letterfolk Tile Mat indoors as we were living in Florida for most of the time since we got it, and everyone who has ever lived in Florida knows the mix of humidity and sun are really hard on anything you have outside. So I can only give my experience of having the mat inside.
