Patched Sweater DIY Project with Threadsy

DIY

Hey there DIY Princesses!

I have such a fun post for you today. For the past few years I have been collecting patches with little idea of what to do with them. I just can’t seem to commit to an entire denim jacket, so they just have been sitting in a drawer.
That was until I had the BEST IDEA EVER, I would add the patches to a fun sweatshirt to wear this Fall/Winter. Of course the first place I headed to find the perfect blank canvas for my idea was Threadsy. Threadsy is the sponsor of this post today!

Threadsy is your one-stop-shop for high-quality blank basics. They are an awesome apparel company that offers quality blanks at wholesale prices (but no wholesale hassle). They have loads of brands you love, like Bella+Canvas, Comfort Colors and Alternative Apparel. No idea is too big or too small for Threasy because they don’t have any minimums to worry about.

So I headed to Threadsy to choose some options. I knew I wanted a sweatshirt as I mentioned before and I ended up ordering both a mustard yellow cropped pullover and a light grey fleece one. After testing my patches on both, I went with the light grey.

Here is a tip if you are planning to paint, or add patches to a fabric: Always wash it first! That way it won’t shrink up funny around the design, and it will remove any residue from the fabric that might ruin the design.

So once your apparel item is washed it’s time to plan the layout. I knew I wanted this design to be on the left chest of the sweater, so I tried it on and made a mark where the ideal location would be. There is nothing worse than adding your design, and realizing it’s somewhere awkward on the apparel item.

I always find it’s best to place the main part of the design and build the rest of the creation around it. I added both patches to the sweatshirt and took a look to see what else we might need. I tested out a few options on my kraft paper with paint before I started on the sweatshirt.
When you are adding designs to an apparel item, you always want to work in odd numbers. Since I had two patches,

I knew I would need to add at least one more thing. Once I added the first star, I thought it needed a bit more so I kept going!

Overall I am so happy with the finished product!

What I love most about this, is that it’s totally personalized to your style!
I think I am going to work on a fun DIY tee next, and I think you all know where my first stop will be - Threadsy!
